Positive V.S. Negative

Process-I created my project by choosing photo that I felt would have a good use of positive and negative space that I would use for the collage. Once I chose my reference image picture, I sketched out the picture of the objects that I chose  onto my board. I then cut out another piece of board for my collage, and came up with the idea for my collage, buying the bubbles for this. After this I chose the colors go the dye that I would use, along with some acrylic paint to thicken the bubbles and iced them togethercreating three other colors.  I  made all f the bubble colors within the cool tone area, which blue, purple, and green being the central tones of my project. I took a star and dipped it into the bubble mixture and began to slow the bubbles onto pieces pf watercolor paper, allowing the bubbles to slowly pop and cover the majority of the paper. When the paper was dry, I cut out different sized rectangles and squares from the other colored watercolor bubble covered paper, and mode patches them sparaticaly onto the other piece go board that I had cut out. When this was completed, I allowed it to dry, and while it was drying, took a piece of transfer paper, and trace the original sketches of my object that I drew on the board onto the trace paper. When the mode lodged collage was dry, I flipped the board and taped the trace paper backwards on the back of the collage, so that the pencil markings that were traced onto the trace paper were faced on the back of the board. After this I took a 4B pencil and drew over the back of the trace paper so that the front of it would transfer onto the back of the board, in the correct position. Then, I  used an exacto knife to carve out the objects that I traced onto the back of the board.  I then, pasted the carved out background of the collage, pasting it onto the original sketched out board. with mode podge, leaving it  to dry overnight. Then I got a piece of trace paper and carved out multiple "Spring like" shapes to where I would spray paint them onto the original board with the pasted collage on it. I chose the color of spray paint that I felt as though would go well with the color theme of my collage, and spray painted my piece.  Finally, I used a thin black sharpie and went over the lines that I had originallysketched with a pencil of my objects onto the board to allow my reference image objects to stand out..

Peer Critiques-

  • Sensory- Anna Catherine Hunt suggested that I should make sure that my lines of my objects were cleaned up and evenly completed

  • Formal/Technical-Maggie suggested that I make sure that the exacto knife caring areas were neat on the sides of them.

  • Expressive-Ms. Johnson suggested that I should add another layer of spray painted
