Still-Life Composition

Process-I created my project by first choosing the paper bags that I would reusing for my material that I would be drawing on in my project and ripped the paper into medium sized pieces. I then crumpled these pieces of paper and dampened them, dropping blue and black ink into the crumpled paper ball and then squeezing the  excess water and ink out. I then chose my alternatee material that correlates to my objects, which is sand paper portraying an ocean and beach feeling with the seahorse, fish, seashell, and sand paper. After this I placed each one of my pieces of paper into the heat press for thirty seconds each, and mode lodged the pieces of paper bag together in the form that I had previously organized them to be in. Then, I chose three objects that correlated well together, and positioning them in a way that was appealing to the eye. I then went into the photo booth and took a picture of what would soon be my reference image. I then enlarged my reference image and printed it out. Once my reference image was printed, I cute out each individual object from the original reference image and used these individual object images to trace the outline of my objects onto the paper bag material. I then sketched my reference image onto the paper bag material using pencil and charcoal. I began to use a light blue color as my central color of my project to create a visual point to the observer. Finally, I sprayed my artwork with a fixitive, which made sure that my pencil and charcoal sketches wouldn't move from he paper bag material that was created.

Mid-Project Check In-

Peer Critiques-

  • Sensory- Anna Catherine Hunt suggested that I should make sure that the highlights on my objects were more prominent.

  • Formal/Technical-Audra suggested that I should blend in my charcoal more.

  • Expressive-Ms. Johnson suggested that I should make sure that the harsh lines on the outline of my objects weren't as visible.

Reflection-

Elements And Principals Of Design-

  • Element- I used color in my project to portray a visual attention bring this light blue color give a pop of life and onto the highlights of my objects.

  • Element- I used repetition in my project when creating the two fish to show a balancing effect.

Overall Reflection-I learned that I am really good at creating the shadows in my objects that I chose to take a picture of which I used as my reference image, as I blend the charcoal in order to create a realistic effect. One thing I would have changed in my project is that I wouldn't have lodge lodged the from of my paper bag, as in the places that I was drawing in pencil and charcoal over the mode lodged areas, it was much harder to blend and get the same perspective of the object as this area wouldn't take the blending of the charcoal as well, leaving a patchiness to be current.
