Cubist Tornado House
Process: I began my project by researching the devastation that occurred to the houses in Dallas after the major tornado that occurred. After my research, chose a house that was severely impacted by the storms, and at the same time portrayed the higher class in that area that was effected. In my piece, I wanted to show how an area that is of higher status was so impacted by such a terrible storm. I printed out the reference image modern house that I chose and cut out my piece of board. I taped trace paper onto my printed out reference image and traced over the prominent lines that are seen within the house to create a modern cubist look of the house. After this, I took another piece of trace paper, and traced the prominent lines of the trees within the reference image that I chose. I then transferred both pieces of trace paper onto my piece of board so that I got the cubist shape of the lined house that I had created. I then began to paint the shapes that the lines created on the house and the trees, while following the colors of the reference image. After this I used a black pen and a ruler to draw over the lines that I had originally transferred onto my piece of board to portray the modern cubist idea.
Reference Images:
-
Sensory: Anna catherine suggested that I go over the areas that are painted with acrylic paint with another layer of acrylic paint in order to create a clean and neat complete idea.
-
Formative/Technical: Anna Clare suggested that I cut off the top piece of paper on my work that was covered with spots of pen and acrylic paint to allow the focus to be on the intricate lines.
-
Expressive: Mrs. Johnson suggested that I add more lines onto the house to make it look more in construction after the hardships.
