Abstract Greek Columns
Process: I began my project by researching different types of Greek columns, these being: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. I then chose the size of canvas board that I had wanted to use and spray painted a layer of gray spray paint to cover my canvas board. I then taped the sides of the canvas board in order to cover the edges to keep it clean and neat for when I started to layer the paint. I began using differing colors of white and light grey acrylic paint with a palette knife to create my first layer of textured acrylic paint. After this first layer dried, I began to continue using the palette knife and layered differing colors of blue, white, green, grey, and black acrylic paint and started to create the shapes that are seen within the three types of columns. After many layers of acrylic paint and seeing the look of the how the texture of the paint looked when it was dried, I realized that when the aryls paint dried, it didn't have the same prominent texture as it had when the paint was wet and first placed. Once I realized this, I decided to switch from using acrylic paint, to using oil paint, and then started to create the shapes of the greek columns while layering the oil paint to create the texture that I wanted. I then used a palette knife to remove some of the oil paint in the crevices of the shapes that represented the greek columns. I finally removed the tape off of the sides of my canvas board, and touched up the sides of the canvas with grey paint where the acrylic paint and oil paint had gotten on it.

-
Sensory: Anna catherine suggested that I add more layers of oil paint to create more texture within the shapes that I portrayed.
-
Formative/Technical: Anna Clare suggested that I use darker oil paint colors in the areas with the crevices in order to show this real idea.
-
Expressive: Mrs. Johnson suggested that I add more shapes with differing size and angles to portray a contrast in the types of columns.

Elements And Principals Of Design:
-
Shape: I used shape within my pieces when I created the lines, swirls, and leaf like shapes to represent the different textures within the Greek columns.
-
Pattern: I used pattern within my pieces when I repeated these shapes with differing sizes and angles to create a repetitive idea.
