Ndebele Hut Piece
Process: I began my project by researching the history and materials that go into the actual formations of the roofs on the Ndebele Huts. After further understanding, it was seen that the thatched roofs are made out of a grass material known as raffia. I first hot glued my piece of board that I had drawn my own Ndebele Hut pattern on to portray the idea of it, making it into a cylinder shape to represent the walls of this so that it would stand on its own . I then ordered a set of hula skirts that were made out of the same raffia materials as the roofs were, and began to cut the skirt to the length that I had measured to be proportioned to a real hut. I then began hot gluing the raffia grass material on a cone shape, stabilizing this by gluing them to the top of the piece of my board wall cylinder stricture, and made the pieces meet at the top to create a point. Finally, I trimmed an pieces of the raffia grass material that were uneven with the rest of them, so that the roof created an idea that with it showing consistency.

-
Sensory: Anna Catherine suggested that I make sure there aren't any hot clue strands hanging off of my raffia grass roof.
-
Formative/Technical: Anna Clare suggested that I add more pieces of the raffia grass material onto my roof so that there aren't any gaps within it.
-
Expressive: Mrs. Johnson suggested that I add a small piece of board to the area that I glued my piece of board that I colored with paint and gel pens to portray the wall of the Ndebele Hut so it is from portrayed secure with ideas.
